Footyville is coming to Leederville.
The City of Vincent will host the 2022 WAFL Grand Final in partnership with the West Australian Football Commission at Leederville Oval on 1 October.
It’s the first time in the WAFL’s history that the big game will be held at Leederville Oval.
To celebrate, Leederville will come alive as it is transformed into Footyville for a festival of WAFL.
Oxford Street from Leederville Parade to Vincent Street, and parts of Vincent Street and Newcastle Street will be closed to traffic to create a carnival atmosphere but there will be local residential access to their homes.
Vincent is working with local town team Leederville Connect to run various activities in Footyville.
From 11.30am till late, there will be free live music, kids activities and roving entertainment on Oxford Street and Leederville Village Square throughout the day.
Local businesses will be joining in the festivities with a range of food and drinks options and shopping opportunities for fans and visitors.
Pinchos and The Leederville will be extending their alfresco dining areas onto the road in the village square.
Food trucks will also be in the town centre on the day.
Mayor Emma Cole said Vincent was excited to host the WAFL Grand Final.
“We’re excited to host the 2022 WAFL Grand Final in partnership with the WAFC at Leederville Oval on 1 October,” she said.
“We’re expecting 14,000 fans to fill Leederville Oval and even more community members and visitors from across Perth in the streets, cafes and bars of Leederville.
“This major event will be a huge boon for our local businesses, with incredible food and drinks options and shopping opportunities for the crowds flocking to Leederville.
“We’ve been working hard on getting the turf ready for the final and it’s looking like it will be in great condition for the big game.
“See you in the heart of Leedy next week!”
Footy finals kick off with the Reserves final at 8.50am, followed by the Colts at 11.40am and finishing up with the Seniors at 3pm.
