Arts & culture

What sets Vincent apart from other areas of Perth is the rich, layered and diverse history embedded in this place that always was and always will be Whadjuk Noongar Boodja. The bustling and ever evolving inner city location we enjoy today has a past as the fringe and outskirts of the city, and a longstanding history of welcoming people from all over the world.

Vincent is known for its thriving arts scene, home to artists and galleries, street art and public art throughout town centres and laneways, live music venues, the Pickle District, Hyde Park events, creative organisations and institutions such as The Rosemount and RTRFM. Our community is diverse, multicultural, vibrant, creative, engaged, and values art and culture.

Arts Plan 2023-2028

The vision of our Arts Plan is to embed creativity in everything we do to make City of Vincent the arts capital of Perth.

The key areas of focus fall under the categories of Innovation, Support, Creative Economy, Activation, and Connection.

Arts Plan 2023-2028

Advisory group

The Arts Advisory Group plays an important role in encouraging and promoting Arts in the City of Vincent, particularly through the provision of expertise and opinion to the City regarding its public art commissions and percent for art acquisitions.

The objectives of the Arts Advisory Group are to act in an advisory capacity to advocate and promote arts in Vincent and to provide expert advice and recommendations to the City on arts projects in Vincent.

Percent for art

The City of Vincent was the first local authority to introduce a Percent for Art Policy in 1998, under the State Government's Percent for Art Scheme. The Policy was recently reviewed and updated in February 2023.

Development proposals subject to this Policy are to set aside a minimum of one per cent (1%) of the total project cost for the development, to be used for public artwork. The City encourages applicants to consider public art opportunities as early as possible in the planning phase for development applications in order to achieve integrated and valuable outcomes with a high level of artistic integrity.
