Western Power and the City of Vincent are working together to convert the overhead electricity distribution network in the Leederville area to underground power. As part of this project, Western Power will be installing new underground cabling, primary equipment (transformers and switchgear) LED streetlights.
PRIMARY EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION
Primary equipment is infrastructure that is essential for the delivery of electricity to consumers. It includes transformers and switchgear units that enable the distribution of electricity to residents in the local area.
Currently most primary equipment is located on power poles. As the electricity distribution network is undergrounded, primary equipment needs to be relocated to ground level.
Where possible, primary equipment will be located in parks, public open spaces, road reserves and verges. Every effort is being made to ensure that chosen sites have the lowest impact on the surrounding area, with landscaping or screening to be added where possible and the total footprint of the equipment kept to a minimum.

MORE INFORMATION AND FEEDBACK
We will be consulting the Leederville community about the proposed location of primary equipment sites in early to mid-2025. If your property is within line of sight of proposed primary equipment, you will receive a consultation letter. Signage will also be placed in parks, car parks and other spaces used by the community if primary equipment is proposed to be installed there. Western Power will complete the underground network design after all feedback has been reviewed.
