Sullivan Logistics Stadium
Leederville’s iconic Sullivan Logistics Stadium will be transformed into a local AFL venue after the City of Vincent received State Government funding towards major upgrades.
Turf and lighting will be upgraded to AFL and AFLW competition standards for the stadium to reach its potential as a state-level venue.
The City of Vincent secured a $3.8 million grant from the State Government along with contributions from the WA Football Commission, AFL, East Perth and Subiaco football clubs.
About the stadium
Sullivan Logistics Stadium is the City of Vincent’s premier football ground and is home to the East Perth and Subiaco Football Clubs.
A state-level venue in Vincent
The City has long been committed to the dream of a local AFL venue in Vincent.
The redevelopment of Sullivan Logistics Stadium means major matches for not only WAFL and WAFLW but also AFLW and AFL can be held here.
Local football players will be able to play and train on a vastly improved and more durable surface during the evening. Thanks to the upgraded lights, the oval can be open for community use at night outside of club and event times.
Businesses in the town centre will benefit from more people attending major evening games.
Projects Happening Now
The State Government has provided funding towards major upgrades.
As part of the project, the turf will be replaced and the lighting will be upgraded to broadcast standard.
Works started on Monday 21 October 2024 and are expected to be completed by March 2025, ahead of the WAFL season.
The works will include two major upgrades.
Turf renewal
The existing turf has a poor soil profile which limits drainage, causing the ground to become very muddy and slippery when there is heavy rain.
The turf renewal will involve the removal of approximately 300mm of soil, which will then be replaced with new soil to improve drainage before new turf is installed.
A new in-ground irrigation system will also be installed which will improve water efficiency and reduce groundwater usage.
Lighting upgrade
The existing lights no longer provide lighting that meets the needs of facility users.
The lighting system will be upgraded to meet broadcast standards, allowing for a range of uses:
- 200 lux for club training
- 500 lux for club games
- 1000 lux for televised games
This upgrade will also include the ability to lower brightness for community use when matches or events are not taking place, meaning the local community can enjoy the oval under dimmed lights in the evenings.
The turf and lighting works are not expected to cause significant traffic or noise impacts.
Once the upgrades are complete, Vincent will be able to host major twilight WAFL, AFLW and possibly AFL matches.
Vincent will continue to work with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, WA Football Commission, East Perth and Subiaco Football Clubs, to ensure the turf and lighting works run smoothly over the next few months.
FAQS
What impact will these works have on residents?
The turf and lighting works are not expected to cause significant traffic or noise impacts to residents.
There will be significant vehicle movements, particularly during the first five weeks of construction. Traffic management will be in place on Vincent Street to ensure safety and minimise disruptions, with contractors guiding truck entry and exit.
No pedestrian access will be available through the construction site, although the footpath connecting the Vincent Library to Vincent Street on the east side of the oval will remain open unless crane or truck movements require its closure from time to time.
All works will take place between 7am and 7pm to limit noise and disruption to nearby residents.

Why do the lights need an upgrade?
We need to upgrade the lights as they are at end of life and non-compliant with modern sport standards.
We are upgrading to 1000lx to give the venue broadcast capacity lighting.
Why do the lights need to be at 1000 lux?
Stadium lights need to reach a brightness level of 1000 lux for several important reasons, primarily centered around visibility, safety, and broadcast quality.
1000 lux provides the optimal balance between visibility for players, enjoyment for fans, and high-definition quality for broadcasts, while also ensuring that the lighting standards are met for professional events
Will the lights always be turned on at full capacity?
No. Lights will be turned on at full capacity approximately 1 - 5 times per year for televised games only.
Can the lights be switched off or dimmed to a lower lux at night?
Yes. Community lighting will ensure local community safety and passive use when there is no training or events
When will the works be completed?
Works are expected to be completed by March 2025.
