Vincent is a positive place to age. We provide a range of services to help older members of our community feel involved, supported and valued. 

Books on Wheels

Our Books on Wheels service is a home-delivery of hand selected books for residents of the City of Vincent who are unable to physically access the library.

Transport Assistance

Eligible seniors and people with disability who have difficulty accessing transport to and from their medical appointments can get transport assistance from the City of Vincent through a prepaid taxi voucher.

Requests for assistance are assessed and approved by administration based on funding guidelines and criteria. An amount of up to $100 may be available to individuals and $150 to each couple per year.

You can submit your application for Transport Assistance all year round, or until the funding source is exhausted.

Guidelines 

In order to be eligible for Transport Assistance, you must:

  • be a resident of the City of Vincent
  • be the holder of a pension concession card and a healthcare card 
  • not already accessing transport assistance via a state or federal government aged care package
  • not already have state funded Taxi User’s Subsidy Scheme (TUSS)
  • not be already have a Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) Health Card
  • not already have Commonwealth Home Support (CHSP) or Home and Community Care (HACC)
  • not already have received the maximum amount of Transport Assistance from the City in the current financial year
  • not already have attended your appointment, as Transport Assistance for past appointments will not be funded

The following will not be considered for funding:

  • payment for taxis for general travel
  • retrospective funding

    Timeframes

    Applications must be received two weeks prior to your first medical appointment. 

    Acquittal

    There is no acquittal process required for this funding.

    Please contact the Community Development team on 9273 6000 to discuss the taxi voucher process before starting your application to ensure that you are eligible.

    Once you have spoken to the Community Development team, proceed to the online application form through Smarty Grants Online Application Form

    The Community Development team will be in contact with the outcome of your application.

    Verge Mowing Assistance

    The City provides a Seniors Verge Mowing Service to residents who are physically unable to maintain their verges due to age or disability.

    This service does not include a regular mowing service however it allows verges to be mowed and tidied up approximately four (4) times per year.

    Outdoor exercise equipment

    LifeTrail Equipment is a series of exercise information stations designed specifically to meet the needs of active older adults. Stations have been installed in ten parks and reserves across Vincent.

    LifeTrail stations contain a range of information on maintaining a healthy lifestyle including the benefits of exercise, healthy eating, Tai Chi, stress reduction and exercises for your mind. The stations provide exercise for the heart, lower body warm up, torso stability, upper body warm up, stretches, forearm rolls and balance.

    In addition to services provided by the City, there are plenty of free and low cost programs on offer by other organisations. 

    Aged Care

    My Aged Care

    My Aged Care is an Australian Government website and phone line to help you find out what aged care services you may be eligible for. Talking about getting some extra help doesn’t mean you can’t live an independent or active life. You may be eligible to receive services such as: 

    Help at home

    • personal care like help getting dressed
    • transport
    • modifications to your home like hand rails or ramps
    • nursing, physiotherapy and other care
    • meals
    • household jobs like cleaning or gardening
    • equipment like walking frames
    • social activities

    Short-term help

    • when you have had a setback and want to get your independence back 
    • recovery from an accident or illness, including after a hospital stay 
    • when you or your carer needs a break 
    • Care in an aged care home

    If you find you need ongoing help with day-to-day tasks or health care, a residential aged care home lets you live in a supported environment where help is available 24 hours a day.

    Social Isolation

    Red Cross Telecross Service - a daily telephone call to check you are well. Telecross is for people who live alone and are at risk of an accident or illness that may go unnoticed.

    Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) - matching eligible community members with a volunteer visitor for companionship.

    Indigo- help people to select and access helpful devices and equipment to maintain or restore functionality.

    The At Home Guide

    Council on the Ageing (COTA) Western Australia has developed ‘The At Home Guide’ to support older Western Australians to live well. It is designed as an ongoing companion for seniors at home. The Guide gathers together information on health, day-to-day living, nutrition, accessing government services and finances, as well as a compendium of important telephone numbers.

    Tech Savvy Seniors Project 

    Seniors Recreation Council of WA provide free Tech Savvy Seniors Resources and can offer support for seniors wishing to stay connected with friends and family. Learn cyber safety tips and more with the monthly newsletters or attend an in-person workshop.
