Ron loves living in the City of Vincent has been a Vincent local for 25 years and wants to ensure his time on Council brings about positive change. He hopes Council genuinely listens to the community and is transparent in its decision making. Ron believes Vincent needs to deliver value for money and work within its means, whilst responding to the core needs and aspirations.
This includes bread and butter issues of safety, noise, parking, seniors, child-care, sport and recreation along with arts and cultural activities. Ron is committed to maintaining the beauty and ongoing health of the flora and fauna in our parks and reserves and believes in greening Vincent with more trees and open space.
As the CEO of a State Government Department for 19 years, he understands leadership, good governance, and sound financial management. As a mentor for troubled youth, he also recognises we have a responsibility to look after each other.
Ron's experience includes:
- Director General of the Department of Sport and Recreation for 18 years, with responsibility for more than 200 staff and 18 sites.
- Co-Chair of the planning and construction committee responsible for Optus Stadium from 2013 - 2018
- Former AFL Board Member, Coach and Player
- Awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2019 for "significant services to public administration and sport and recreation"
- Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors 1998
- WA State Government Transport Commission - 8 years
- Former Secondary School Teacher, Bachelor of Education 1979
- Patron of the Edmund Rice Centre Mirrabooka, which assists refugees, migrants and indigenous members of the local community from 2019 - present
- Board member of the WA Police and Community Youth Centres (PCYC) from 2020 - present
