Sullivan Logistics Stadium is one step closer to becoming a boutique AFL venue after the City of Vincent received State Government funding towards turf and lighting upgrades.
The stadium, formerly called Leederville Oval, is the City of Vincent’s premier football ground and is home to the East Perth and Subiaco Football Clubs.
Since the success of the 2022 WAFL Grand Final, Vincent has been advocating for significant funding towards upgrades in a bid to transform the stadium into a boutique AFL venue.
The State Government, through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, has provided $3.8 million to Vincent towards replacing the turf and upgrades to ensure the lighting is at broadcast standard.
“Sullivan Logistics Stadium is the largest football venue in Vincent and one of the State’s leading grounds for WAFL and WAFLW,” said Mayor Alison Xamon.
“It is our long-term goal to transform the venue into a local alternative to Optus Stadium and host major AFLW fixtures and AFL Gather Round matches if WA’s pitch succeeds.
“We would like to thank the State Government for coming on board with this project and providing much-needed funds to help us and the WA Football Commission to achieve this vision.
“We will continue to work with the Department, AFL, WAFL, East Perth and Subiaco, to ensure the upgrade works run smoothly over the next few months.
“Our goal is to have the revamped stadium ready for the 2025 AFLW and WAFL seasons.”
The turf replacement and lighting works are expected to start in October 2024 and be completed by early 2025.
These upgrades come after Vincent refurbished the roof of the stadium’s grandstand earlier this year thanks to funding from the Australian Government.
