Celebrating Aboriginal culture at Sounds of Warndoolier

Published on Thursday, 27 February 2025 at 11:30:00 AM

Community members came together for a dandjoo (gathering) at Warndoolier last weekend.

Sounds of Warndoolier was the City’s first event at this Mt Lawley significant site since the reserve’s Aboriginal name was revived. It was a meaningful way to mark an important reconciliation milestone.

The morning also celebrated the recently opened River Journeys Interpretation Node and Moorditj Footprints Audio Trail.

Vaughn McGuire, who created artwork as part of the node, conducted a Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony and shared stories with the community.

Attendees enjoyed live music from Bibbulmun Noongar singer Kobi Morrison, traditional dances performed by Gya Ngoorp (one blood) and a selection of delicious food provided by local Aboriginal caterer All Good Grub.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it a special morning.
