Event goers can take a bite-sized holiday around the world at Vincent’s upcoming Festival of Culture.
It’s the first time that the City will be holding the event at the North Perth Town Hall on 21 March, 5 – 7pm.
Vincent has partnered with, Castellorizian Association of WA, Ethnic Community Council of WA, Perth Asian Community Centre and Welcoming Cities to bring the event to life.
These organisations and others will be showcasing their cultures and serving traditional food for people to try.
People can also pop on their dancing shoes and groove along to performances from Castellorizian, Chinese, Vietnamese and Indian dance groups.
A range of free activities will be available for kids and families, including henna body art, face-painting, Chinese lantern making, Japanese origami, interactive cultural games and a photo booth.
There will also be plenty of prize giveaways to be won.
“We are incredibly lucky to have people from across the globe that call Vincent home,” said Mayor Alison Xamon.
“The Festival of Culture is part of Harmony Week, which recognises the diversity of the community and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds.
“From signature food delights to traditional dances and lantern making, attendees can learn something new or indulge in their favourite cuisine.
“It’ll be an opportunity for people to feel like they are on a long holiday around the world, but in the shape of a bite-sized outing on a lovely Autumn evening.”
The Castellorizian Association of WA will be running a free Zorba dance lesson.
The Chinese Dance Australia Inc will be performing three Chinese folk dances at the festival, including the Yangge, Dai Peacock and Tibetan dances.
“We’re thrilled to be part of the City of Vincent’s upcoming Festival of Culture and can’t wait to share our performance with the community,” said principal Amy Lei.
“We’re looking forward to celebrating the diversity and vibrancy of the event.”
Ms Lei said Chinese dance was a form of creative expression, which allowed individuals to connect with their cultural identity and improve their psychological well-being.
Vincent has a rich tapestry of cultural diversity and is committed to celebrating many cultures from around the world as part of its Strategic Community Plan 2022-2032.
According to the 2021 Census, 32.9 per cent of people in the City of Vincent were born overseas.
The top ancestries include Italian, Irish, Scottish, Chinese, German, Greek, Vietnamese and Indian.
