Proposed Road Dedication in Leederville

Published on Thursday, 9 January 2025 at 7:47:30 AM

The City of Vincent is seeking community feedback on a proposal to request an existing right of way in Leederville to be made into a road.

The portion of the laneway, approximately 187m in length, runs between Oxford Street and 663 Newcastle Street, Leederville.

Dedicating this lot as a public road will allow us to maintain and upgrade the laneway for vehicle and pedestrian access.

If the Minister grants the request, the right of way will become Crown Land owned by the State of Western Australia, with care, control and management the responsibility of the City in accordance with section 55(2) of the LAA.

The City can then upgrade the laneway, which may include drainage works, resurfacing, lighting, line marking, pedestrian access upgrades and general amenity e.g. mural art.

The impact upon the local road network as a result of this potential road dedication and upgrades would be negligible. It is a low-speed environment that allows access between Oxford Street and the private car parks of 663 Newcastle Street.

The final design of the laneway will be done in consultation with the strata owners of 663 Newcastle Street (Leederville Village) to ensure appropriate vehicle access is maintained.

Visit Imagine Vincent to find out more and have your say.

Consultation closes 4pm Monday, 10 February 2025.
