Menzies Park drainage project

Published on Wednesday, 22 January 2025 at 4:02:46 PM

Works to improve drainage at Menzies Park and surrounding streets in Mt Hawthorn will begin in February 2025.

A modern stormwater storage and infiltration system will be installed underground to protect against flooding in known hotspots including East Street, Sasse Avenue and Lynton Street.

The project follows the success of similar works completed at Lynton Street Reserve in May 2024. It is part of our work to improve Vincent’s drainage network to better prepare for and cope with increasing rainfall and the impacts of climate change.

Sustainable water reuse

The new system at Menzies Park will not only reduce our reliance on existing pipes and infrastructure but help to replenish our much-needed groundwater reserves.

The space-efficient structure can store approximately 300,000 litres of rainwater, which is gradually released it back into the ground. This approach supports environmental sustainability while addressing local drainage needs.

Project details

Start date: February 2025

Duration: Approximately four weeks

Impact: Minimal disruption is anticipated. A small section at the park's edge will be fenced off, and pedestrian detours may be in place. Access to homes will remain unaffected.
