A message from the Mayor

I hope you had a nice summer break, and happy Lunar New Year.

Vincent has had a busy start to 2025, with the opening of our new Birdwood Square playground and turf works commencing at Sullivan Logistics Stadium (Leederville Oval).

Keep reading to find out more about our Lunar New Year celebrations, what’s planned for the Perth Festival at East Perth Power Station and other upcoming projects.

To celebrate the Year of the Snake, we are holding a performance by the Chung Wah Lion Dance Troupe at the popular Kyilla Community Farmers Market on 8 February.

Young children will also have the chance to participate in a fun, red packet treasure hunt where they can win a range of prizes.

Lunar New Year is also an excellent time to support the wonderful Asian restaurants in Vincent.

Many of our great local businesses are offering exclusive Lunar New Year goods and menus and holding special events.

Bring along your family and friends to celebrate the new year locally.

Tomorrow, Friday 31 January, I will be heading down to Beatty Park to open the annual All Abilities Pool Party.

This is one of the biggest pool parties for kids we hold each year, with plenty of fun, and inclusive water activities.

We’ll have Angelfish swimming instructors ready to help swimmers in the water.

In February, for the first time ever, Perth Festival is coming to the East Perth Power Station.

The site will be transformed into an electrifying entertainment space, with hundreds of people set to attend various events there.

Vincent is proudly supporting the festival’s free main event, Casa Musica, and the Boorloo Contemporary visual art projections onto the walls of the building.

Inspired by the piazzas and parks of southern Europe, Casa Musica celebrates the sounds of music from across the diverse Indian Ocean rim and beyond. Boorloo Contemporary will showcase creative works by Noongar artists Allan Yarran, Ilona McGuire and Daniel Hansen.

I encourage you to come along to the festival, pack a picnic or support food vendors and dance along to free live music along the banks of the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River).

Another iconic Vincent venue is currently undergoing major upgrades.

We’re replacing the turf at Sullivan Logistics Stadium in Leederville and will soon start work on installing new lights ahead of the WAFL season.

In the coming months, we will be installing signage in our new cat prohibited areas.

These include our major parks – Hyde Park, Britannia Reserve, Banks Reserve, Robertson Park and Smith Lakes Reserve.

We want community members to keep their furry friends at home and away from health and safety risks.

Best wishes,

Mayor Alison Xamon
