A newly created public open space facing the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) at East Perth Power Station is now ready for the upcoming Perth Festival.
The forecourt area has been leased from the site’s owner DevelopmentWA to the City of Vincent for five years.
The goal was to transform the sandy, underutilised space into a public park that can be used for community events, including Perth Festival.
The new park is also an ideal space for picnics, outdoor cinemas and concerts.
As part of the festival which starts on 7 February, the forecourt area will be home to Casa Musica – a southern-Europe inspired live music venue with food trucks.
There will also be visual art projections screened onto the walls of the building of the power station in an art commission called Boorloo Contemporary.
Noongar artists Allan Yarran, Ilona McGuire and Daniel Hansen have created works that visually speak to the history of the site in colour, record and poem.
These two family-friendly activations are proudly supported by the City of Vincent and will be running until 2 March.
Vincent is also advocating for the power station site to be redeveloped into a cultural precinct with a variety of uses including high-quality residential, commercial tenancies and a home for the local arts industry.
