From a paint and sip to wartime melodies, local residents enjoyed a range of interactive events as part of Vincent’s Seniors Week celebrations.
Seniors Week is an opportunity for the community to come together, try something different and meet new friends.
The suite of events events was supported by Council on the Ageing (CoTA) in partnership with the Department of Communities and Lotterywest.
Celebrations kicked off with a paint and sip class on 11 November, where participants chose to paint a centrepiece, a floral image or their own masterpiece while sipping on non-alcoholic mimosas and nibbling from a cheese platter.
This event was a great way to maintain and improve cognitive function, mental health and social connection among seniors.
On 12 November, an enthusiastic group of seniors hopped onto a Transperth Network Tour and travelled from the Vincent Community Centre via bus, train and ferry to South Perth for lunch.
The group had a blast and gained more confidence to use the public transport system and plan day trips around Perth in the future.
Music lovers were treated to incredible vocals by Soprano Sarah Waddington from the Joondalup Symphony Orchestra at the Wartime Morning Melodies Show on 13 November.
The singer performed many wartime classics by Vera Lynn, The Andrew Sisters and Ella Fitzgerald, and received a grand reception from the audience.
On 14 November, seniors brought out their dancing shoes and busted out their best moves at a Seated Dance Class inside the Community Centre.
To wrap up the week on 15 November, seniors took part in a unique Bingocize game – which was a fun combination of bingo and exercise.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in making Vincent an even more positive place to age.
