Tennis and netball players unite at Robertson Park

Local tennis and netball players can now score aces and shoot goals on four new multi-sport courts at Robertson Park.

Vincent’s largest tennis centre underwent a major transformation this year as part of the Robertson Park Development Plan.

The aim of the plan is to deliver improvements to the courts, buildings and green spaces to meet the needs of inner-city residents and the tenants, Tennis Central.

As part of the first stage of the plan, six tennis courts have been refurbished and converted to four multi-sport courts with new LED floodlighting and fencing.

The upgrade not only accommodates tennis but opens opportunities for other sports including netball, with a new home for the North Perth Dynamites.

A dual hit-up wall and half basketball court, with a colourful mural backdrop painted by artist Tyrown Waigana, has also opened to the community.

To top off the makeover, the entrance has been improved to make the centre more accessible and welcoming to visitors of all ages and abilities.

These works were partially funded by the State Government, through an election commitment from the Hon. John Carey MLA, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries’ (DLGSC) Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund, DLGSC’s Club Night Lights Program and Vincent.

The next stage of works is expected to begin in mid-2025.

This stage will see 12 of the existing synthetic grass courts upgraded to hard surfaces, in line with Tennis Australia standards.

“The new surface and lights make for great playing conditions, and they are a game changer for competitive play at night.

“We are thrilled to have Robertson Park as our new home – as the only netball club in the City of Vincent, we’re delighted to be based in the heart of the City.

“We are experiencing rapid growth to now have sixteen teams across primary school, high school and open grades.

“The development of the facility at Robertson Park gives us space to accommodate that growth well into the future and provide a home for netball in our community.”
