Back to basics for National Recycling Week

Published on Tuesday, 12 November 2024 at 12:59:30 PM

National Recycling Week, 11-17 November 2024, is the perfect time to refresh your recycling know-how.

Every time we recycle correctly, we’re part of a larger cycle — the circular economy.

The best way to start is to make sure the right things go in our kerbside recycling bin. Waste Sorted WA is encouraging people to get the basics right first when it comes to recycling.

Download the Recycle Right app

The Recycle Right app is an easy way to find out which bin things belong in.

To encourage people to use the app, we are giving away a cart of waste-free items in partnership with Recycle Right. Gifts include a $50 The Source Bulk Foods voucher, $50 Hanks Corner voucher, reusable cup, bottle, bags and more.

All you need to do is download the Recycle Right app and ensure your push notifications are turned on. Recipients will be randomly selected by Recycle Right and notified through the app.

Recycle just the five

By recycling just the five we give them new life instead of sending them to landfill.

  1. paper
  2. cans and tins
  3. cardboard
  4. plastic bottles and containers (not soft plastics)
  5. glass jars and bottles

Lids off, rinsed & loose

Remember, keep items loose, rinsed and lids off in the recycling bin to make sure your recycling gets sorted properly.

  • loose – not in bags or boxes
  • rinsed – give food containers a quick rinse
  • lids off – lids get sorted separately
