Speed limits on all local roads in Vincent are dropping from 50km/h to 40km/h.

This comes after Main Roads WA approved a speed reduction from 50km/h to 40km/h on all Local Access Roads in Vincent in 2023.

Years of lobbying, engagement and trialing the concept in some suburbs has led to the official roll-out of the permanent 40km/h speed zones.

Installation of 750 new 40km/h speed signs started in June, with works expected to be completed this month.

Once drivers see a new 40km/h sign on a street, that is the green light to slow down and drive at the new speed limit.

Slower roads make it safer for kids, dogs and users of alternative transport to cross the road and walk to school, work and town centres.

It will also reduce the chance of crashes in residential areas compared to a 50km/h speed limit.

More information can be found on the 40km/h speed zones page.
