Drainage works at Lynton Street Reserve

Published on Monday, 20 May 2024 at 10:12:34 AM

Work is underway to install a new stormwater storage and infiltration system at Lynton Street Reserve in Mt Hawthorn.

The project aims to address flooding issues in the area after extreme rain events. Two side entry pits will be installed along Lynton Street to collect rainwater and direct it into the new system, which can hold about 85,000 litres of water. This system is designed to handle stormwater from Lynton Street only and will not be connected to the existing drainage line to Lake Monger.

Additionally, the City of Vincent arranged the cleaning of the main drainage outlet at Lake Monger, which has been completed by the Town of Cambridge. Consultants have been hired to survey the current drainage system in Mt Hawthorn to plan for more upstream storage options to further reduce flooding during heavy rains.

Work continues to clean and reline other existing drainage pipes in the area.

This project is expected to be complete around mid-June 2024. The reserve will be fenced off during the works; however, the playground will only be closed for two days, from Monday, 20 May until Wednesday, 22 May. We would like to thank everyone for their patience.
