A bridge to better access at Banks Reserve

Work is underway to build a footbridge over Walters Brook at Banks Reserve. The pedestrian bridge will make it easier to move between the playground, car park and toilets.

Made of steel and timber, the bridge is designed to enhance the area's functionality while blending seamlessly with the natural surroundings.

The project is the next stage of our Banks Reserve Masterplan and is one of the ways Vincent is improving access in parks and public spaces.

It follows the River Journeys Interpretation Node project which will provide a peaceful lookout space along the Derbarl Yerrigan.

A new footpath will connect the bridge to the playground and toilet block and vegetation will be planted next autumn.

We are working with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation, and Attractions, to limit any potential impact on the environment during the works and to honour the Aboriginal cultural heritage of the Brook.

Access to the car park and certain areas of the park may be temporarily affected during construction. The playground will be closed on Thursday 10 October to allow for works.

The 3.5ha reserve is on the Swan River foreshore in Mt Lawley and is bounded by Joel Terrace, the old East Perth Power Station and the Toni Di Scerni wetlands.

It is known for its cultural significance as a meeting place and camp and is officially recognised as a Place of Reconciliation.
