The City of Vincent has developed a draft Child Safe Awareness Policy and welcomes your feedback.
The policy provides a framework for how we can support organisations to be child safe.
It aligns with recommendations from a 2013 Royal Commission investigation into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
The investigation's report recognised the role local governments can play in creating, promoting and maintaining the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in their communities.
In March 2023, the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) recommended local governments to create their own Child Safe Awareness Policy.
Our draft Child Safe Awareness Policy recognises Vincent is uniquely placed within our local community to show leadership and support in this area.
It provides a framework for how we can support organisations to be child safe, protecting children and young people from harm and/or abuse, by:
- providing access to resources
- raising awareness
- sharing relevant information
At its September meeting, Council approved the proposed Child Safe Awareness Policy for the purposes of community consultation.
The City of Vincent supports and values all children and young people, and this policy is one of the ways that we can show our commitment to being child safe and having a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse.
