Scarborough Beach Road & Green Street roundabout

The new dual-lane roundabout at the intersection of Scarborough Beach Road and Green Street became fully operational in late August 2025, improving safety for all road users. New shared paths also opened to pedestrians, enhancing connectivity for people travelling to and from the Glendalough train station and local business hubs.

The project was funded by the State Government following a 2017 election commitment.

The City of Vincent and City of Stirling worked with Main Roads on the development and design of an appropriate treatment for the intersection, with Main Roads undertaking the construction.

Residents were given the opportunity to provide feedback on initial designs during a Vincent facilitated community consultation in 2020.

Happening now

During September and October 2025, Main Roads will continue to carry out minor reinstatement works while Western Power completes streetlighting installation.

Construction works to change Birrell Street into a cul-de-sac will also be completed during this time.

The one-way entrance into Birrell Street has been closed since November 2024.

Speed awareness signs

Four temporary speed awareness signs were installed along Ellesmere Street in Mt Hawthorn. The signs were used in response to community feedback during the project.

Speed awareness signs are designed to encourage safer driving by displaying a vehicle’s speed as it passes. Drivers travelling within the limit will see a green smiling face, while those going over will see a reminder to slow down.

Similar initiatives have been shown to positively influence driver behaviour and help create safer, more pleasant streets.
