Neighbourhood Watch is a community safety and awareness program aimed at reducing the incidence of preventable and opportunistic crime.

It is about protecting your property and preserving your way of life through communication and cooperation between neighbours, and a good way to start conversations in your community that help build safe, strong, caring, connected and happy communities!

Neighbours are your most valuable security asset - they can keep an eye on your property and report any suspicious activity, fostering a sense of unity and safety.

A Police Officer on patrol may not know what is normal in your street and may not recognise a stranger in your yard. That is why you and your neighbours are in the best position to observe and report anything of a suspicious or criminal nature to Police.

How you can support Neighbourhood Watch

Anyone can get involved in Neighbourhood Watch. The simplest and easiest way to promote the Neighbourhood Watch philosophy is as a participant! There is no need to formally join a Neighbourhood Watch group or register as an active volunteer unless you would like to do so.

Keep informed of local crime trends and crime prevention initiatives by following WA Police Force on social media.
Communicate with your neighbours regularly. In addition to direct communication, consider digital networks, emailing, texting and social media apps as ways to get in touch and exchange information and warnings quickly and efficiently.
Consider holding a street event to get to know your neighbours better! Check out the City of Vincent's Open Streets Event Kit or email community.partnerships@vincent.wa.gov.au for ideas and further information about how the City can help!  
Evaluate and improve the security of your home or business. Check out this free, online home security quiz developed by Neighbourhood Watch Australasia and CrimSafe for useful tips and information.
Mark all items of value for identification.
Display Neighbourhood Watch stickers to deter would-be thieves.
Report all suspicious behaviour and criminal activity immediately to the Police Assistance Centre on 131 444.

Reporting crime and suspicious activity

The Police rely on information from the public to identify problem areas and to solve crimes. By taking action and reporting crime, you are helping yourself and protecting others.

If you see something, say something.

If you see any suspicious or criminal activity, report it to the Police immediately. Do not put your safety at risk by confronting the offenders.

When you make a police report, you can assist by providing as much information as you can, including:

  • The date and time of the suspicious activity or incident;
  • The location and address;
  • Details about the incident and what has happened - ie. who, what, where, when, which, why and how.
  • Vehicle details such as colour, type, make, model and registration; and
  • A description of the suspicious person(s) or offender(s), including gender, age, appearance, clothing and other distinguishing features.

Who to call?

The City of Vincent works closely with local police but does not act as a replacement nor share the same authority.

The City appreciates information and reports from the community, but it is also important to contact the relevant agency directly to ensure an appropriate and timely response.

Report all crime, suspicious activity and incidents to the Police as and
when it occurs.

Visit the WA Police Force website to access a variety of online

City of Vincent Ranger Services
The City's Ranger Services are on duty seven days a week and
can assist with matters relating to animal control, parking and
permits, litter and illegal dumping, fire hazards and patrols of
local parks and community facilities.

City of Vincent Ranger Services (After Hours Emergencies)
The City's Ranger Services can be contacted outside of business
hours for emergencies only. Examples of after hours emergencies
include vehicles obstructing driveways or access to properties,
dog attacks, major damage to public property that poses a risk
to members of the public or issues accessing a hall or facility
that you have booked.

Eyes on the street

Eyes on the Street is a former WA Police Force community safety initiative which is now supported by Crime Stoppers WA.

The program allows everyone to be "eyes and ears" for the police by providing a quick, easy and anonymous way to report suspicious and criminal activity and behaviour, especially security officers, rangers, taxi and ride share drivers, couriers, hotel staff and anyone who, through the nature of their work, may come across suspicious behaviour on a regular basis.

Information shared with Crime Stoppers WA is then directed to the WA Police Force or other law enforcement agencies for their intelligence and action where appropriate.

Eyes on the Street is an information sharing exercise. If you need police assistance call 131 444, or in an emergency call 000. 

What can I report?

Police matters Report information to Crime Stoppers WA which is directed to WA Police and other law enforcement agencies.
Prison matters Report information about criminal activity in the prison system. These reports go directly to Corrective Services.
Scams Report information relating to scammers and how they operate. These reports go directly to WA ScamNet.
Environmental matters Report information relating to illegal dumping, pollution, landfill levy, illegal clearing of vegetation, plastic bag ban or other environmental issues. These reports go directly to the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.
Neighbourhood Watch matters If you are a participant in the Neighbourhood Watch program, report information about suspicious behaviour or criminal activity in your local community.
