Rangers enhance skills with waterbirds rescue training

City of Vincent Rangers recently undertook waterbirds basic rescue training, equipping our officers with an enhanced understanding and skills to effectively care for and transport sea/water birds to care facilities.

The training covered identification of bird species prone to aggressive behaviour towards humans, along with proper personal protective equipment (PPE) usage. The workshop also explained signs of bird illness and handling techniques for secure transport of different species.

Vincent's parks are home to hundreds of waterbirds including swans and ducks. In instances where Seabird Rescue volunteers face heightened demands, our Rangers can now be called upon for basic assistance and respond to incidents such as swans wandering onto roads and cases of unwell birds, particularly those affected by botulism.

For Ranger Services during office hours, contact the team on 9273 6000 between 8.30am and 5pm.
