Vincent wins Urban Greening Grant to boost tree planting

The City of Vincent will be ramping up its tree planting efforts in streets and parks next year, thanks to a State Government grant.

Vincent received $139,671 as part of the State’s Urban Greening Grants Program. The program is a collaboration between the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation and the WA Local Government Association.

The funding will contribute to:

  • Planting more trees in infill areas to create continuous canopy.
  • Replacing non-local street tree species that were lost from the dry summer with drought-tolerant WA native species.
  • Creating new native gardens at Hyde Park to address tree loss due to the polyphagous shot-hole borer.

These planting efforts, which will be in addition to Vincent’s annual planting program, will take place during the 2025 winter season.

This comes after the Parks team planted 300 trees and more than 4000 native plants over the past few months.

A hundred verge trees were planted in new spots in East Perth as part of a tree mapping project.

The recently completed project recorded the current health maintenance requirements of 16,000 street trees.

It also identified more than 2000 ‘plant a tree’ sites for future planting opportunities.

More information about street trees and how to request one can be found here.
