Young children of all abilities can now use two new communication boards while playing in the pool and creche at Beatty Park Leisure Centre.

The boards, which were created by Two Way Street, support the diverse needs of people with physical disability, speech impairments or neurological conditions.

This initiative will assist people with communication challenges to connect with others by empowering them to communicate independently, as well as fostering a sense of belonging and acceptance within the community.

Both boards feature boxes with symbols and words to describe things and phrases like bucket, frog, cafe, book, toys, ‘do you want to play?’, ‘lost, I’m lost’ and ‘look, watch’.

Children can use these symbols to share a message and incorporate them into play.

There are also other communication boards at Hyde Park and the new Braithwaite Park toddler playground.
